The Nebo Einstein 400 head torch is a rechargeable unit that has a spot LED with three white outputs and a COB LED with one white and one red output available.
The left hand white spot LED outputs a bright beam of 400 lumens on the turbo output, which is designed as a boost setting, allowing 35 seconds output at a time in order to prevent the temperature of the torch becoming too high and thus protecting the LED. The high output is a constant setting of 250 lumens and the low setting has 50 lumens. The right hand COB LED offers a 100 lumen flood output and a 15 lumen red output.
Operation is easy with the two push buttons on the top of the light that separately control the spot and flood LEDs. With each press of the left power button the spot LED cycles through high, low and off. If the torch is in any mode for longer than 8 seconds then the next press will turn the light off rather than cycling through the modes. Turbo is activated by holding down the power button and will last for 35 seconds before reverting to the previous mode, or quicker by pressing the button again.
The right hand R button controls the COB LED and each press will cycle through white, red and off. The COB LED can also be instantly activated in the red setting by holding the button down with the light off, and the light will then cycle the modes backwards in the order of red, white and off if the button is pressed within 8 seconds. This is useful for preserving the eye's natural night vision and handy if you are in a situation where a low light level is required, such as when camping and not wanting to disturb others.
Spot and flood LEDs cannot be used at the same time, however they can be switched between while the light is on by pressing the opposite button to the mode currently in use, for example when in flood, press the power button to switch to the spot.
It is powered by the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which is recharged inside the torch via the micro USB port that can be revealed by lifting the silicone dust cover on the underside of the torch. The supplied cable is plugged into the micro USB port and then connected to a standard USB port or USB adaptor. The LED indicator next to the power button will light up red while charging is in progress then turn blue once charging is complete. Be sure to replace the silicone cover to protect the micro USB port for dust and water ingress.
The head strap threads through the bracket to use as a head torch, or it can be used in the hand if preferred. The hinged bracket allows the torch to be rotated within a 60° angle to direct the beam where you need it.
